In July of 2002 I took part in the Wish-a-Mile 300 Bike Tour. It was basically a 300 mile bike ride that lasted for 3 days and was meant to be a fund raiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Someone asked me if I wanted to do it and I just kind of flippantly said "yeah, sure" without really realizing how much time and effort I'd have to dedicate to training.
The picture above was the background image for a webpage I'd set up at the time to chronicle the whole experience, and I think it pretty much sums up how I felt about the whole thing: Starting out with optimistic confidence, and then gradually realizing how excruciating the whole experience would really be. Maybe if I was more selfless I would have been motivated by thought of the smiles on the faces of the children we'd be helping, but the only thing I could think about was my sore butt. -_-;
